Main purpose of job:

Digital Assistant for UKinIndia network, responsible for content production from concept to completion, maintenance of digital channels and upskilling the UK network in digital skills.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

The rol

We are looking for a proactive digital assistant to help manage the UK’s digital footprint in India. The UKinIndia digital team sits at the heart of the communications network, working on issues across the breath of UK engagement in India. Work will be varied and fun – you’ll be creating content and designing messaging on everything from tech partnerships, to consular campaigns, to trade and investment issues – and everything in between. Wherever possible you will be designing content to draw out the human impact of UK/India collaboration.

You will work as part of a dynamic digital team executing our digital strategy. You will be responsible for working with policy colleagues and campaign leads to create highly professional pieces of content that deliver key UK messages. This will require working with colleagues across different locations – as well as Delhi and Mumbai, the UK is present in six other locations in India. You will be the expert on how to use digital channels effectively and will advise teams on messaging, creative direction and content. You will think imaginatively about how to change opinions and will work with the team to increase follower numbers and engagement with our target audiences. You will build a series of effective relationships with digital influencers and contacts to help deliver UK messages.

You’ll have a series of specific responsibilities, but will also be expected to work flexibly as part of a team, covering others when required.

Specific job holder responsibilities may include:

Manage UKinIndia channels across digital platforms. Responsible for managing a well-planned content calendar and issuing content.

Work with wider digital team to execute the social media strategy, ensuring that UK channels are run in a way that engages our target audience and delivers UK messages.

Provide expert training and advice to the wider UKinIndia network in order to facilitate better quality digital work. This includes training on filming and photography, written content and messaging.

Work with digital champions in the deputy high commissions across India to increase the quality and impact of our regional digital channels. Assist the head of team in setting priorities for the regional digital channels.

Act as in house photographer for high profile events, as required

When required, support on video production and editing for the UKinIndia network, ensuring that products have a clear message, the right tone and are in the appropriate format.

The job holder

This is a specialist role and so we are looking for someone with strong experience in digital media, and who is enthusiastic, proactive and creative. The successful job holder will be a dedicated team player, who is able to build strong relationships across a network (that is split over eight geographic locations).

They will have opportunities to access specialist training for government communicators. Much of the learning is on the job, which will be diverse and varied.

Working patterns:

The British High Commission network across India is committed to providing flexible work patterns. While standard hours are 08:30-16:30, with 30 minutes for lunch, the use of mobile ICT and the nature of the job means that the jobholder will be able to work different hours according to their personal circumstances. However, we would expect the jobholder to be based in the mission for 4 out of 5 days of the week.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Language requirements:

Language: English and Hindi.
Level of language required: The jobholder should be fluent in written and spoken English and be able to function in Hindi.

A written test will be included as part of the recruitment process.

Other skills / experience / qualifications:

Essential on arrival:

Two years of work experience in a professional video or multi-media environment

Familiarity with and experience of working on all key digital platforms (Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc.)

British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be INR 57,904 per month plus 12% provident fund and 6% Special Allowance.
